Client: St. Catherine Catholic School
Location: Laguna Beach, California
LSA provides traffic consulting services to the school on a regular basis. Services have included surveys of the drop off/pickup and previous traffic management, development of a revised traffic management program, facilitation of discussions with Caltrans to address access and signal timing along Coast Highway, driveway integration on adjacent properties, and preparation for and attendance at staff meetings.
LSA conducted observations of student drop off and pickup over a period of days near the close of the school year. Based on these observations and the desires of the school administration for a review of child safety, LSA developed a traffic management plan that incorporated a redesign and reuse of the current vehicle queue area, striping the driving surface to reinforce direction and proper driving habits, training of staff, and meeting with teachers. The plan was implemented in the following school year. The plan has been reevaluated and modified to address additional queuing and lack of compliance by some parents. The revised plan has been in effect for the entire school year with success.
LSA also prepared a traffic impact analysis in support of a Master Plan project for the school. The study was peer reviewed by an independent third party and approved by the City of Laguna Beach. The Master Plan was subsequently approved by the City Council.
