Southern California Association of Governments Weekend Travel Model
Client: Southern California Association of Governments
Location: Los Angeles, California

SCAG weekend travel

In order to ascertain the on-road mobile source travel-related impacts on ozone air quality in the Los Angeles basin on weekends and early in the work week, SCAG contracted with LSA to develop a weekend travel model. LSA was selected based largely on our proposal to include both Saturday and Sunday specificity in the model as well as the ability to switch special events and other important weekend activities on and off. In addition, LSA’s extensive experience in analyzing travel behavior information and survey data contributed to the award.

The model will be utilized by SCAG and environmental agencies in Southern California to develop transportation control measure strategies that target weekend congestion and ozone formation. It will also support photochemical modeling of the entire region to identify weekend transportation strategies for reducing emissions of criteria pollutants and their precursors, which occur early in the work week.
