Kern COG Noise Study
The Kern Council of Governments (COG) is the responsible agency for sponsoring retrofit noise abatement projects in Kern County. The agency sought the assistance of LSA to prepare a Noise Study Report for ten locations throughout the County. The locations were selected based on citizen requests over the last 10 years. LSA’s scope of work included both long-term and short-term noise measurements. Roadway traffic noise modeling was performed using the FHWA approved Traffic Noise Model (TNM) 2.5. Three Noise Study Reports were prepared to present the findings of the traffic noise impact analysis for segments of State Routes 99, 58, and 14. For all modeled receivers that were shown to approach or exceed the noise abatement criteria, retrofit noise barrier abatement measures that would achieve a minimum 5 dBA reduction were analyzed.
