Orange County Great Park Project
Client: Orange County Great Park Corporations/City of Irvine
Location: Irvine, California
In 2002, the citizens of Orange County, California voted on the creation of the Orange County Great Park as the preferred reuse of the El Toro Marine Air Corps Station. The Orange County Great Park is actually three park experience in one, as laid out by the Great Park Master Plan, including the canyon, the habitat park, and the fields and memorial park. LSA is part of the Ken Smith design team in charge of the transportation and parking element for the park. Because of the park's unique uses, LSA has conducted special trip generation and parking turnover analyses to understand the park's dynamics. LSA has also developed preliminary concepts for an integrated, multimodal transportation system that includes vehicles destined for strategic parking areas, transit shuttles to connect the Irvine multimodal station with activities and events within the park, and a system of bicycle and pedestrian trails. LSA's next step is refinement of the transportation and parking analysis and design, and conducting a comprehensive traffic analysis per City requirements.
