Southern Orange County Transportation Infrastructure Improvement Program - Foothill South
Client: Transportation Corridor Agencies
Location: Orange County/San Diego County, California

LSA was selected to provide geographical information systems (GIS) support for the Foothill South Transportation Corridor Environmental Program. In addition to working with the Transportation Corridor Agencies (TCA) to provide GIS services, from mapping to analysis, LSA is also providing GIS support for the various consultants to the project. In 1981, the County of Orange certified an Environmental Impact Report for the conceptual alignment of the Master Plan of Arterial Highways, which included a highway alternative to the Interstate 5 to run east of Lake Forest and Mission Viejo and south of the foothills connecting to the I-5 near the Orange County/San Diego County border. The highway was named the Foothill Transportation Corridor, or State Route 241.There are eight alternatives, each being analyzed on their impact for various environmental issues, including biology, cultural, and land use. All analysis was conducted using custom interfaces built on the ArcGIS 9 platform and utilizing ARC/INFO. Additionally, most of the mapping was completed using various custom-built GIS applications to aid in the publication of the large number of map requests. LSA has also provided GIS training and custom mapping for the TCA and their consultants.
