LSA is under contract to the City of California City to conduct a cultural resources assessment of the Strata Equity Group Properties Specific Plan Area and off-site improvements consisting of 2,587 acres located in the City of California City, Kern County, California. This confidential document provides preliminary draft results and recommendations for reference purposes only. Upon its completion, a final Cultural Resources Assessment will replace this document. This work was completed pursuant to the California Environmental Quality Act. A cultural resources records search, literature review, and reconnaissance survey were conducted for the project area. In addition, LSA initiated SB18 Native American Consultation.
The literature review revealed that 27 cultural resources studies had taken place within one mile of the project boundaries, resulting in the recording of 49 cultural resources. The project area itself had never been previously surveyed for cultural resources. Of the previously recorded cultural resources, part of one prehistoric lithic quarry crosses a portion of the project’s off-site eastern linear alignment. LSA archaeologists documented the portion of the previously recorded lithic quarry that fell within the current project boundaries, in addition to recording 21 new cultural resources using California Department of Parks and Recreation 523 forms. The new resources included six prehistoric sites and one historic site.
