Colma Housing Element Update

Photo of Residential Development in Colma

Included in the full-time contract planning services that LSA provided to the Town of Colma was the preparation of two successive Housing Element updates. Each update, involving significant public outreach, sought to preserve, maintain, improve, and produce housing for all income types in Colma. The Housing Element promoted equal housing opportunity and guided the private housing market toward providing a wide variety of housing types and sizes capable of accommodating a broad range of income groups, age groups, and “special needs” groups, while successfully meeting the standards set for by the California Department of Housing and Community Development. The Element incorporated policies that encouraged the expansion of housing opportunities for underrepresented groups, supported the provision of second unit dwellings in all areas designated for residential use, promoted development of higher-density residential and mixed uses near transit hubs. With the latest Housing Element update, programs are available to the community that can improve housing opportunities, while policy implementation demonstrates that Colma can provide its regional fair share of housing needs by 2014.
