LSA’s Point Richmond Cultural Resources Group conducted cultural and paleontological background research and field surveys, geoarchaeological studies, and consultation with interested parties for a large, multi-phase residential development in central Solano County. LSA developed areas of potential effect to U.S. Army Corps of Engineers standards and evaluated 23 prehistoric and historic archaeological sites and historic architectural resources for eligibility for the National Register of Historic Places and California Register of Historical Resources. Cultural resources within or adjacent to the project area ranged from bedrock mortars to the 1834 Peña Adobe. The cultural resources survey resulted in the identification and recording of five additional archaeological sites within the project area. LSA prepared a historic property treatment plan to mitigate for the project’s effects to prehistoric and historic properties. Presence/absence excavations were conducted to determine boundaries of recorded prehistoric and historic period archaeological sites in order to avoid adverse effects to National Register-eligible resources.
