Welcome to LSA’s news and announcements page where we highlight "what's new at LSA", including how we are addressing new regulatory requirements; new technical capabilities and services we are offering; and news about our staff and offices.
The Garden Grove Technical Assistance Panel (TAP) from ULI Orange County/Inland Empire's 2010 Transit-Oriented Development Marketplace was held at the UCI Student Center on January 20th, 2011. Speakers included Baxter Miller (President, BMLA Landscape Architecture), Matt Fertal (City Manager, City of Garden Grove), and Tony Petros (Principal, LSA Associates). View the youtube video.
SR-57 Northbound Widening Project Construction Begins
On November 30, 2011, Les Card, Deborah Pracilio, and Nicole West attended a groundbreaking ceremony at the Honda Center to celebrate the start of construction of the SR-57 northbound widening project between Katella and Lincoln Avenues. The project will add a northbound lane from Katella to Lincoln Avenue to reduce congestion, increase traffic flow, and enhance safety. As a sub to HDR Engineering, LSA prepared the Initial Study with Negative Declaration and supporting technical studies. Work was coordinated with OCTA and Caltrans.
The Mohave Ground Squirrel
LSA biologists have extensive experience
conducting protocol trapping surveys for rare, threatened, and
endangered small mammal species throughout southern and
central California. LSA has recently expanded its capabilities in
this area: LSA now has 4 field investigators and 12 field
assistants permitted to conduct protocol trapping for the Mohave
ground squirrel (MGS), a threatened species under the California
Endangered Species Act. With so many qualified staff
members, LSA is capable of handling multiple large projects
requiring MGS protocol trapping while providing clients the
responsiveness and flexibility to meet specified trapping survey
time frames and regulatory requirements.
In addition to MGS, LSA biologists hold both State and
federal permits to conduct protocol trapping for the
following protected species: San Bernardino kangaroo rat,
Stephens' kangaroo rat, Tipton kangaroo rat, giant kangaroo rat,
Pacific pocket mouse, and Los Angeles pocket mouse.
LSA also has the in-house biological expertise to address many
other issues related to protected natural resources in the Mojave
Desert. For example, Joshua trees, which are only found in the
Mojave Desert, are protected under the California Desert Native
Plants Act, and many desert communities have established
regulations for their protection and preservation. Several LSA
biologists are International Society of Arboriculture certified
arborists, with extensive experience developing Joshua tree
protection plans, assessing Joshua tree health, and supervising
Joshua tree transplantation operations. Please contact
for additional information.
